Zach Bray, a victim of a bus accident in the Hunter Valley, had recovered from colon cancer before the tragedy

Bray’s cancer journey had set him on a path to achieve even more greatness. His family is now devastated.

“It was a year in which I learned to develop as a man in many ways (I like to call myself that now),” he said after the all-clear.

Originally from Dee Why on Sydney’s northern beaches, Bray, like his father, had been trying to get his commercial pilot’s license. He was on the right track and got his private pilot’s license in 2021. The dream was fueled by his cancer.

His father Adam spoke at the time of his pride in his son.

“Zach Bray…(you) have grown into a giant of a man in every way, pride ain’t even close,” he wrote on social media.

When Bray’s friends learned of the tragedy, they took to social media to express their grief.

“I am absolutely disappointed to hear the news. It has been a joy to watch you blossom from a little kid into a great man with the world at your feet,” Bray’s friend Toddy Goodwin wrote on Tuesday morning.

“You made an impact on everyone you met and you will never be forgotten.”

Wedding guest Jamie Butters also shared her heartache as she came to terms with losing several friends.

“My mind is still trying to make sense of everything. My heart is heavy with pain,” she wrote, including Bray in her message.
