Young playmaker Lynagh delivers again for the Reds

Queensland playmaker Tom Lynagh continues to prove he’s no ‘nepo baby’ with another rousing performance in the Reds’ stunning Super Rugby Pacific victory over Western Force.

The 19-year-old son of Wallabies great Michael Lynagh showed that the trendy notion of giving special opportunities to the offspring of famous people through nepotism does not apply.

Reds manager Brad Thorn says he wasn't surprised by what Lynagh (second left) brought into the game.

His performance in the Reds’ 71-20 win at AAMI Park on Sunday will give coach Brad Thorn a headache ahead of the Brumbies clash, with Wallabies veteran James O’Connor also set to impress from the bench.

Lynagh not only orchestrated Queensland’s unbridled attack, but also managed a try-saving tackle in the first half that dashed any hope of a Force counterattack.

Lynagh moved from his hometown of London after finishing school to follow in his father’s footsteps in Queensland, where he made his super debut last week.

Thorn said he wasn’t surprised by what the youngster had brought to the table.

“I’m not surprised, but I’m pleased. I had faith,” Thorn said.

“A 17-year-old comes to the other side of the world with a pretty heavy last name and grit his teeth.
