‘World’s Worst McDonald’s’ closes after infamous mass brawl and raccoon fight

Ottawa, Canada - April 28, 2019: The McDonald's on Rideau Street in downtown Ottawa has long been notorious for a high number of incidents that prompted police to visit the premises. Following an open letter from the police chief, the owner recently changed the opening hours from 24 hours to 6am to 10pm.

A notorious McDonald’s restaurant is set to close – after hundreds of police operations were piled up.

The outlet in Ottawa, Canada was the scene of a viral video in 2013 of a raccoon being brandished during a mass brawl.

According to local reports, it has been visited by police hundreds of times in the 40 years of its existence.

Jack Graham told CBC News: “I was here about a week and a half ago. And I just felt like I was slipping, so I checked [at my shoe] and there is a needle.’

Another Ottowa resident said the restaurant has descended into “complete rubbish” over the years.

The McDonald’s on Rideau Street is perhaps best known for a video that went viral in 2013 showing a major fight.

More than 15 men were seen exchanging punches and throwing objects at each other on the premises.

In a major twist, a man pulled a raccoon out of his jacket and entered the fight.

In 2018 alone, hundreds of 911 calls to police were made due to beatings and angry customers.

That same year, a clip entitled “Legendary Rideau McDonald’s” surfaced showing three men being filmed hitting each other with floor signs.

The McDonald’s restaurant would eventually reduce its hours in the face of increasing anti-social behavior.

But as similar conditions persisted, Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau sent a letter to McDonald’s Canada to complain about “continued criminal activity and social unrest.”

Building owner Crosthwaite told CTV he believes the reason for the restaurant’s permanent closure was more widespread.

He said: “The city demolished Rideau Street when they rolled in the subway.

“Then they tore it up again to improve it and put containments in it.

“There have also been freedom rallies and COVID, all of these things are upheavals that cannot make it easy for stable, reliable operations.”
