World War II veteran honored on his 100th birthday at Lighthouse Point

LIGHTHOUSE, Florida. – A World War II veteran from South Florida is celebrating a milestone birthday.

Edith Vancheri turned 100 on Saturday.

Vancheri was formerly in the Army and served overseas during World War II.

She was surprised by representatives from the Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins and Florida Panthers at Papa’s Raw Bar in Lighthouse Point, her favorite restaurant.

A national girls’ volleyball team was also in attendance to present the centenarian with a custom-made jersey.

Policewomen and military personnel were present at this important milestone.

To honor Vancheri’s groundbreaking life, Broward County and the Military Women’s Memorial in Arlington also declared Edith Vancheri Day, according to event organizers.

She was able to spend her special day with friends, family and a whole community who love her.
