Worker says she quit after receiving a 13 cent raise

In a now-viral TikTok, a worker said she decided to quit her job after giving her an “offensive” 13 cent raise.

TikTok user Keeley Collins (@keels.in.heels) posted the video on Jan. 8. It was viewed over 945,000 times as of January 11th.

In the video, Collins spoke the line “Looks in horror from everyone in the room” from Taylor Swift’s song “Speak Now.” She used a text overlay to explain what would evoke such a reaction.

“When HR asked why I was leaving, I explained that giving a $0.13 raise was offensive,” she wrote.

Collins further explained the situation in the caption, writing, “It was a total of about $20/month inflation hike.”

In the comments, many viewers applauded Collins’ decision.

“YES. I got a 24% raise this year. If they want and care, THEY WILL,” wrote one user.

“Fun fact: If you don’t get a raise, that covers the inflation rate plus a hefty raise on top. They’re actually getting a pay cut,” commented another.

Other users shared their experiences of quitting jobs that didn’t offer competitive pay.

“Or if you quit after 12 years there to take a much higher paying job, suddenly they can afford to offer a $10 raise to stay. Nah,” commented one user.

“I once told a company to keep the 5 cent increase – and they did! I quit a month later!” a second wrote.

“I was offered a penny from a job that I left the very next day,” shared another.
