Worker is messaged after calling in sick without a medical certificate

One worker says her boss requires workers to have a medical certificate as soon as they call in sick, pointing out that it’s almost impossible to get a same-day appointment in a now-viral TikTok.
In the video posted by TikToker Squidd (@fat.louies.pink.butthole) on March 10, she explains that she doesn’t have health insurance, leaving her to shell out $150 every time she needs to call in sick.
“If [my boss] did, she would demand a doctor’s certificate in the event of a longer absence. If you ask for a medical certificate on the first day off, it’s because you don’t fucking trust your employees,” she says in the clip.
Squidd goes on to say that she got a “write-up” when she called in sick with the stomach flu because she “couldn’t go to the ER.” Now, weeks later, she says she has a sore throat and is still fighting with her boss to get time off to recover.
“This bitch wanted me to stay at work on Wednesday and come to work yesterday. All my co-workers, if you’re seeing this, Becky wanted me to give you a sore throat because she only cares about her job and not the health and safety of her employees,” she says. “But I will be getting a medical clearance from Urgent Care today for malicious compliance. The CDC says people with strep throat should not return to work unless they have been on antibiotics for a day.”
Squidd provides more context in the caption, writing, “I’m pretty sure this is a violation of the new PSL laws. It basically prevents me from using my accumulated sick leave. Not to mention the first thing she said to me after I told her I had a high fever was, ‘Well, now I’m really getting fired.’ She does. If you bring her any kind of complaint or concern, she blames it on you and starts talking about her problems in an attempt to manipulate.”

The video racked up over 248,000 views Monday, with commenters calling out TikToker’s boss for her doctor’s letter policy.
“If they don’t pay for insurance, they shouldn’t be able to ask for a medical certificate!” wrote one user.
“It should be illegal to ask for a note if you don’t offer comprehensive health insurance,” said another.
Others shared how they managed to submit a mandatory medical certificate at work.
“I went to work and threw up in my boss’s office, she never asked for a note again,” said one commenter.
“Go there and then buy Adobe Pro,” suggested another.
“Sounds like you’ll have to ‘borrow’ a letterhead from the ER and change the date when you need 2. I mean she can’t legally verify it,” added a third.
