Worcester post-Nor’easter cleanup underway – Boston News, Weather, Sports

WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) – Crews were busy clearing snow that had accumulated in their area from a long winter’s day in Worcester on Tuesday night.
Although snow totals were lower than other communities like Ashby or Hubbardston, the 13.8 inches measured at Worcester Regional Airport around 8:30 p.m. still had plenty of digs in Worcester.
“It’s a lot of work,” said one person. “Not easy.”
Worcester Department of Public Works officials said this storm was mild for the city. Still, officials said the wind remained a concern Tuesday afternoon.
“We expect the wind will pick up,” said Jay Fink, commissioner of public works and parks.
So far, according to Fink, the city has only seen one tree and a few branches fall down during this storm.
“[B]But we expect it to come back with a vengeance,” added Fink.
As temperatures dropped, crews braced for an even busier night on Tuesday as they worked to clear streets in hopes of getting children back to school on Wednesday.
“The hope is that the roads should be passable around midnight or after and we should see all systems go back to school tomorrow,” Fink said.
Schools in Worcester are due to open a two-hour delay from Tuesday evening. Officials plan to notify families by 5am if they have to cancel school for a second day.
A parking ban will remain in effect on some streets in Worcester until 6am on Wednesday morning.
