A woman on TikTok went viral this week after claiming her gynecologist refused to consider her request for tubal ligation, a form of sterilization also known as “tubal ligation,” and instead suggested she was considering getting an IUD.
TikToker Olivia (@lvdwns) posted her video on the topic two days ago, in which she recreates an alleged interaction with her gyno. The video currently has over 1.5 million views.

“Hello, gynaecologist! my name is olivia I never want children. I’ve been dreaming this up since I was old enough to think of the concept. Can I have my hoses tied off please?” She begins her video.
“No,” replies the gynecologist. “It’s permanent.”
“Yes I know!” says Olivia. “That’s why I asked. I’d like that option.”
“Well, no. Maybe you’ll meet Mr. Right and change your mind,” says the gynecologist.
“No. It’s not my plan. It’s not in my five-year plan, it’s not in my ten-year plan, my fifty-year plan. I don’t want that,” the TikToker replies.
“Yes, but you could change your mind, and it’s permanent, so here’s a pamphlet for an IUD,” the gynecologist replies. Olivia then holds up a pamphlet for an IUD that she claims was given by her gynecologist.
In comments, users pointed out the hypocrisy of giving this advice when one doesn’t want children, but not giving the same advice to those who do.
“We don’t tell people who WANT kids they’re going to change their minds?? Why is it okay if they tell us we’re going to change our minds???” asked one user.
“Seriously. Just like I don’t care if other people have kids, I just don’t want one for myself,” Olivia replied. In other comments, she added, “If I change my mind I will adopt” and “In our crappy one.” There are so many children sitting in the foster care system waiting to be adopted.”
In follow-up videos, Olivia elaborates further on her position.

In this video, she says she is not considering an IUD or any other form of hormonal birth control. However, she says it’s not relevant at this point in her life.
“I just went to an exam and asked because I just don’t want kids!” she says. “Seriously, I guess we’ll just cross that bridge when we get there. Whatever boo I get, I guess he just needs to have a vasectomy. Apparently you can get them with a snap of your fingers because they’re ‘reversible’.”
In another video, she also chided the men who commented on her decision beneath her videos, arguing that they had no right to make value judgments about their personal choice.

First, she reminds them that not having children will not lead to “human extinction.” Then she simply reminds them that their comments are unwarranted and inexperienced.
“I’m not going to the grocery store clerk to do my taxes — and I’m not going to ask a man what to do with my fallopian tubes,” she concludes.
