The woman said she had a great experience renting her gear for the first time but faced misogyny upon returning it. She claims “an old white guy” approached her in the parking lot and harassed her about the unwound hose.
“Huh, someone could have rolled up a hose,” he said, according to TikToker. “They will charge you extra for that.” He allegedly went on to say he was only joking.
“You were in a pissed mood this morning and decided to take it out on me because I’m a woman and you’re a man,” she says in the video.
She goes on to explain how the supervisor asked if the gas tank was full, knowing the gas tank had to be returned full. After a back and forth over the tank, the woman went inside to speak to someone else.
“He turned on the pressure washer inside five feet from where I was so he could make as much noise above me as possible,” she claims.
The supervisor is said to have told the employee who was now helping her to charge extra for her gas. The employee gave her a number to report the interaction.
The hose and gas requirements mentioned by the manager are not listed in the company’s return policy.
The video has been viewed over 20,000 times and got other TikTok users to share their own experiences with Home Depot.
“Oh the turning on was also to see if he could find a problem with that and blame you. Because you know women can’t operate power tools,” said one user.
“I hate going to Home Depot because they often have poor service like this. Sorry you experienced that,” commented another.
“It’s real ladies and it’s 2022,” said a third user.
The Daily Dot contacted Home Depot via email and TikToker via Instagram messages and TikTok comments.
