Woman dead, man tasered by police in Bankstown

A woman died in western Sydney on Sunday evening when police at the scene tasered a man who was allegedly armed with a knife.
At 7pm emergency crews were called to a house on Wattle Street in Bankstown following reports of a small fire at the property.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire at the rear of the house and found a woman inside with significant head injuries.
The 67-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She had not yet been officially identified on Monday morning.
According to police, when they arrived, officers from Bankstown Command were confronted by a man who was allegedly armed with a knife. Officers used a Taser and the 31-year-old was arrested, police said in a statement.
The man, who police say was known to the woman, was taken to Bankstown Police Station. He was later taken to hospital for examination.
