A TikTok user has gone viral after posting a video claiming Instagram may be sharing private information about her activity on the dating app Tinder with her followers.
The video was posted by user Nicole (@nicolekcaruso), who shared on the video-sharing platform her experience of receiving messages from her male friends teasing her about using the dating app.
I just pray they’re kidding me and this isn’t real, which honestly is a possibility. anyway I will delete tinder IMMEDIATELY.

“I don’t know who authorized this update, this feature. I get a text message from two of my male friends at the same time saying, ‘Why are you swiping Tinder at 11am?’ and immediately I ask: ‘How did you do that? do you know that?’” says Nicole in the video. “None of the guys I stole looked familiar at all. It’s not like they could have been mutual friends.”
Confused, Nicole asked how they knew about her activity on the app. That’s when she learned that Instagram had reportedly sent a notification to her followers that said, “Nicole is swiping on Tinder.”
In the video, she expressed her frustration with the alleged feature. “I have relatives, cousins, uncles, people who just don’t need to know I’m swiping on Tinder,” she says. “Nobody needs to know this information.”
It is currently unclear whether Instagram actually shared information about Nicole’s activities on Tinder or whether her friends were joking with her. She clarified in the caption: “I just pray they’re kidding me and this isn’t real, which honestly is a possibility. Regardless, I am deleting Tinder IMMEDIATELY.”
While Tinder users can link their Instagram accounts to their dating app profiles, Tinder hasn’t announced an update sharing account activity across social media platforms. The only measure of recent activity, according to the app’s website, is the green dot that appears on match profiles that have been active in the last 24 hours.
Nicole’s video quickly went viral, amassing over 123,000 views, with many people expressing their shock and outrage that Instagram could share this kind of information with their followers.
“I’m scared,” wrote one user.
“omg. new nightmare unlocked,” added another commenter.
One user had an alternative explanation: “It doesn’t. Your Tinder profile probably just said you’re online now.”
The Daily Dot has contacted Nicole via TikTok comment and Instagram direct message, and Tinder via press email for more information.
