Woman calls on tourists to take photos with their children in Hawaii

A TikToker captured people taking pictures with their children on the beach in Hawaii and called them to her.

@dominique_______ posted a video of what she thinks are tourists posing with their children on June 15th. The TikToker’s kids play on the beach and get their picture taken and then run back to her.

“When two random ass tourists take pictures with your kids,” wrote @dominique_______ in the overlay text of her video. She also wrote that she was “stunned” in the video’s caption. As of Tuesday, her video had nearly 1.5 million views.

Commenting on her video, @dominique_______ clarified that she was very close to her children on the beach and the tourists didn’t touch her.

“It was fun and weird,” wrote @dominique_______. She also identified as a Hawaii resident and used #dontvisithawaii on her TikTok, a hashtag pointing to the problem of over-tourism in Hawaii. Resources needed by Native Americans and Hawaiians — like water — have been allocated to tourists. Some Hawaiians have said that excessive tourism has caused them to be treated like “second-class citizens.”

Some commenters were just as “stunned” as @dominique_______.

“Oh damn no!!!!!” @valeriamarie808 commented.

“Immediately no. Immediately no,” wrote @hdoeowhanzospwjsbcksoaja.

Others said that @dominique_______’s experience might be common in Hawaii.

“I feel like they take photos like this to show their family and friends when they return home,” commented @dorifawkenaye. “It’s happened to me a couple of times.”

“My mother-in-law tells this story, when my husband was a baby in HI, Japanese tourists on the beach were pulling their mother’s arms to take a picture with her,” wrote @ateyourchocolatesquirrel.

“It happens to me all the time too,” commented @azul3luz.
