Woman Badger’s book manager half price over mask policy

While many places in the US have eliminated mask requirements, some companies are still requiring their employees to wear masks as a safety measure two years into the COVID-19 pandemic. One such company, Half Price Books, has specified that its stores will follow local mask guidelines.

As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise, some Americans remain averse to mask policies in stores, especially following a relatively widespread mask-removal.

In viral video, a woman entering a Half Price Books store harasses a manager about the store’s mask policy, stating she “has the right to explain to those employees” that wearing masks “doesn’t help.”

Video posted by @technicolorpachydermss shows the woman repeatedly trying to argue with a Half Price Books employee about the store’s mask policy. The clerk replies, “I’m not going to have this conversation with you, ma’am,” and informs her that she has to leave the store.

Studies show that wearing masks or respirators can reduce your chances of testing positive for COVID-19 by 56% to 83%, depending on the type of mouth and nose covering, according to the CDC. However, the woman insists she is immune to the virus, having previously contracted it.

The woman eventually puts on a mask and completes her purchase before leaving the store, telling the employee she spoke to that they “lost a customer” and were going to lose more.

Commentators criticized the woman’s insistence that she was exempt from a policy that covered everyone in the building.

“Customers forget the basic rule of business: the manager reserves the right to refuse service to unruly customers,” wrote one commenter.

“Why can’t people just be difficult?!” wrote another commenter. “He’s literally just doing his job, it’s bloody business policy!”

“People need to understand that there are still places where mask use is required,” wrote one commenter. “Not because the managers enforced it, but the company that enforced it.”
