With car break-ins on the rise, downtown visitors are choosing to pay for a little peace of mind

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Police Department is investigating car break-ins at entertainment venues over the weekend. At the Enterprise Center on Sunday, some people said they were taking extra measures over the recent break-ins before heading to the Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock show.

“I park where it’s $20. I think the $20 is where you should park. I mean, you might get a rental car, and it’s not a big deal, but if it’s your car, a $750 window, oh, $20, not that bad,” Andres Broussard said.

For Broussard, the cost of parking in a garage is far less of a concern than worrying about a break-in.

“You have to pay for parking. Those are just the costs you need to factor in. With the ticket, eating out, all that stuff you have to pay for. There is no free ride. Even parking when you want it to be safe,” he said.

The St. Louis Police Department is investigating burglaries at The Grove, Delmar Hall and City Foundry. Officials claim they heard gunshots in a parking lot while investigating burglaries at The Foundry. They say a person leaned out of a car and fired a gun at three teenagers and two officers. The youngsters started running.

When officers caught up with the teenagers, a police spokesman said they found two handguns, one of which had been reported stolen. One of the guns also had an automatic trigger that turns the pistol into a fully automatic weapon.
