William Gallas has ruled Chelsea out of the Premier League title race after criticizing the Blues’ lack of transfer deals so far this summer.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were set to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the title last season but ended well behind the top two as Chelsea finished third.

Although the Blues signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, they lost Andreas Christensen, Romelu Lukaku and Antonio Rudiger.

Gallas feels it has left Chelsea weaker than last season and sidelined his former club from the title race.

But the Frenchman believes two of his other former clubs – Arsenal and Tottenham – can both be in contention for the title next season and will be much closer to Liverpool and City.

“I think Tottenham and Arsenal can get closer and challenge Manchester City and Liverpool,” Gallas told Genting Casino.

“I like what both clubs have done in the transfer market and I expect a lot of competition towards the top of the league this season.

‘I find Chelsea will end up behind Arsenal and Tottenham with their current squad. Chelsea haven’t done enough in the transfer market – at the moment they’ve only signed Sterling and Koulibaliy – that’s not enough for a club like Chelsea.

“Chelsea didn’t win the league last season and you expect them to make a statement and bring in players to improve the squad but they didn’t. I’m not sure why they haven’t signed more players – maybe they will. I don’t know why they haven’t strengthened significantly yet – I think Chelsea could suffer this season if they don’t.

Chelsea start the Premier League with an away game at Goodison Park against Everton.

Frank Lampard is expected to be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was unable to train for the week through injury.

Tuchel has lamented his side’s pre-season form and the German is not happy with the club’s preparation for his second full season in charge.
