Why was there a snowy surprise this Saturday morning?

ST. LOUIS: Some woke up surprised this morning to snow on the ground.

That National Weather Service in St. Louis said that snow events can be difficult for forecasting models. They said that when this happened, there was 5 to 6 times more snow than forecast in parts of the region.

Fox 2 meteorologist Chris Higgins said snowy weather could be difficult to predict. That’s why today’s snow was not in the forecast

“The math is constantly changing based on rainfall rate, location and how ground temperatures can factor in,” Higgins said.

He goes on to say that snowfall rates are unlikely to be sufficient to cover the very warm ground if this event occurs during the day. So most of the snow will melt as soon as it hits the ground.

As the day warms up, the ice on the streets should melt. Be especially careful when driving on elevated roads and bridges.
