“Who’s ready for Air Jordan NFTs?”: Nike surprises everyone by acquiring an NFT company and announcing their own for the metaverse

NFTs and Cryptocurrencies are all the rage right now – Nike just got on the hype train to start their own for the metaverse

Nike has entered the metaverse by acquiring a virtual shoe maker. It sounds crazy and from the days of the Jetsons, but virtual sneakers are now a reality. A well known manufacturer of sports equipment and basketball sneakers in the NBA community, they now have skins for your avatar in the metaverse.

Air Jordans are one of the best-selling sneakers of any brand, and they will also be part of the NFT lineup. The sneaker collection is an influence builder for the younger generation, and so are virtual sneakers. Imagining a future where people watching and playing basketball in virtual reality is scary and exciting at the same time.

The new deal will be a partnership between Nike, Converse, Air Jordan and RTFKT to offer virtual sneakers. There’s nothing to say about whether the sneakers will just be virtual or they’ll be tied to an actual release, but only time will tell if that’s the case.

The NFTs are also taking over the league – Steph Curry, Paul George and Tyrese Haliburton are some of the big names backing them

Steph Curry and Paul George are Crypto advocates who previously even bought themselves an NFT Bored Yacht Bape Club. He also has shares with a company called FTX, which makes their own NFTs. Both of them are firing their guns on and off the court.

Tyrese Haliburton is one step ahead of both of them and has custom sneakers designed for him to wear on the court. It negates the idea of what an NFT is, but he owns it, so who’s to ask what he does with it?

That’s really been the talk of the past year and a half, and NBA players and sportswear manufacturers alike are joining in now. With Facebook announcing the metaverse, this murky virtual reality future becomes a lot more messy.
