as the queen With Platinum Jubilee weekend fast approaching, many people have been keen to learn more about all of the characters that make up the entire royal family.

One of them is the little royal princess Alexandra, who often appears at events such as garden parties and Royal Ascot.

But who is she and how is she related to Her Majesty?

Who is Princess Alexandra?

Born on Christmas Day 1936, the 85-year-old little king is the daughter of George Edward, Duke of Kent – son of the former King George V – and his wife Princess Marina of Greece.

In 1963 Alexandra married Angus Ogilvy – the second son of the Earl of Airlie – at Westminster Abbey, where he held his funeral service in 2005 after his death the previous year.

President or Patron of over 100 organizations on behalf of the Queen, Princess Alexandra is a working member of the Royal Family.

She is best known for her leadership in healthcare for people with mental health issues and terminal illnesses – causes that, according to the royal family’s official website, “are close to the heart of the princess”.

Alexandra’s interests span many areas of British life, from her role as Joint President of Cancer Research UK to her role as Patron of the British Goat Society.

As a working member of the institution, she is also eligible for military roles including her honorary title of Royal Colonel of the 3rd Battalion The Rifles and Colonel in Chief of the Canadian Scottish Regiment.

How is Princess Alexandra related to the Queen?

The Princess is Her Majesty’s cousin and the two are reportedly very close. A documentary last year described their relationship as “very special” and Alexandra is said to be “the closest thing to a sister” the Queen has.

In fact, Alexandra stepped in for the Queen at this year’s Buckingham Palace Garden Party Monarch’s recent struggle with mobility issues.

But while Princess Alexandra is known to be related to the Queen, she is also related to Prince Philip.

The eldest daughter of the Duke of Kent and Princess Marina, she is simultaneously Queen Elizabeth’s first cousin and Prince Philip’s first cousin after they are removed.
