The Strictly 2022 lineup has just added an ’80s pop legend to the Bros frontman Matt Goss has been confirmed as a new celebrity contestant.
The news was announced This Morning, with Matt becoming the eighth celebrity to be confirmed as a participant in this year’s series.
The singer joins the likes of Kiss FM DJ Tyler West, Paralympian Ellie Simmonds, comedian Jayde Adams, Loose Women host Kaye Adams, Radio 2 host Richie Anderson, Hear’Say singer and soap star Kym Marsh and former Hollyoaks actor Will Mellor on.
He said of his involvement in the show, “I’m extremely nervous and excited, but I’m optimistic because I’m very limber from the knees down.”
Who is Matt Goss and how old is he?
Matt, 53, originally rose to fame in the late ’80s as the lead singer in the boy band The Bros, which also featured his brother Luke and their friend Craig Logan on bass.
The band formed in 1986 and scored a string of hits over the next few years including When Will I Be Famous?, Drop The Boy, Cat Among The Pigeons and in 1987 their chart-topping I Owe You Nothing.
They also scored two top five albums: 1987’s Push and 1988’s The Time.
Logan left the band in 1989 and Matt and Luke continued as a duo, scoring more hits like Too Much and I Quit.
The band had a huge following at the height of their fame – known as the ‘Brosettes’ – and were so popular that police were once forced to cordon off a section of Oxford Street in central London when they were overwhelmed by fans who had turned their backs on a record deal , which the band did at HMV.
Her fan club also had over six million members worldwide, while her first ever UK tour sold out all 14 dates within an hour of going on sale.
Bros broke up in 1992 and Matt began a solo career – with held a residency in Las Vegas for several years – while Luke switched to acting, appearing in films such as Blade 2 and Hellboy 2.
The brothers reformed Bros for a 30th anniversary reunion tour in 2017, playing shows in London and Manchester.
They also found a new generation of fans with the behind-the-scenes documentary Bros: After The Screaming Stops.
Does Matt Goss have a partner or is he married?
Matt Goss has never been married, although he was previously engaged to Cuban-American TV presenter Daisy Fuentes for seven years.
He is currently said to be in a relationship with jeweler Chantal Brown.
The singer was previously romantically linked to Melanie Sykes, Martine McCutcheon and singer Rebecca Ferguson.
