Which airlines are canceling flights and what is their cancellation policy?

Holidaymakers in the UK have to contend with airport chaos, delays and more canceled flights since late May, with a number of big-name airlines continuing to cancel flights in June.
Britons traveling abroad have been thrown off planes trying to board, while some sun-seekers have been unexpectedly stranded in foreign hotels.
For others it was a case of disruption or disappointment at airports like Gatwick, Bristol and Manchester.
Each airline has their own cancellation policy if your flight examiner says your holiday has been cut short.
And if you’ve been told that your flight is canceled less than 14 days in advance, for reasons the airline is responsible for – or your flight is delayed by a certain time – you’re also entitled to compensation.
Let’s take a look at the rules for each major airline affected by the cancellations.
Which airlines have canceled their flights and what are their policies?
easyJet
The low-cost airline easyJet has suddenly canceled hundreds of flights since the end of May 2022.
If your flight has unfortunately been cancelled, you have a number of options which are set out in easyJet’s Canceled Flight Policy.
You can switch flights for free, get a 12-month voucher for the exact value of your flight, or request a refund – which you can track here and should be processed within seven days.
To select your option, go to Manage Bookings and continue from there.
You may also be entitled to general compensation as mentioned above.
If you have incurred “reasonable” expenses as a result of a canceled flight, such as For example, the need to stay in a hotel or buy groceries can be reclaimed using easyJet’s expense form.
Make sure you read your legal notice for delayed and canceled flights here on the easyJet website. So you know exactly what you are entitled to.
British Airways
The British airline British Airways (BA) has also canceled numerous flights.
An anonymous airline pilot even told it Der Spiegel that staff shortages were partly to blame for the chaos they predicted could continue throughout the summer.
BA Flight Tracker can let you know if your flight has been canceled so be sure to check as your departure date approaches – although you should be contacted if it is cancelled.
If you’re unlucky enough to be booked on a canceled flight, you can get a full refund – usually under Manage My Booking if you booked direct with BA.
If you booked through a third party, you will need to contact your travel agent or holiday provider.
You may also be able to claim expenses for things like hotels, transport and meals if a sudden cancellation has left you stranded, as well as be entitled to compensation.
Visit the compensation page to find out how to claim.
TUI Airways
TUI Airways has reportedly canceled six flights a day from Manchester Airport until June 30 the I.
Cardiff Airort has also experienced disruption so check your flight status with the TUI Flight Tracker.
Again, ideally you should get a message if you’re booked on a canceled flight.
TUI passengers with canceled flights should receive a full refund within 14 days – and you may be entitled to compensation, which TUI can list here and claim via a form.
Their FAQ page adds: “If you are denied boarding or your flight is canceled or delayed for at least 3 hours, please contact staff at the check-in desk or gate for information about your rights.” in this case it’s about things like compensation or support.’
WizzAir
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is also in the news for canceling flights.
You can rebook your flight for the next available option on the same or a similar route, or cancel your flight and receive “Wizz Credits” in your account, the Wizz Air website says.
However, you should be able to get your money back from your bank after receiving the credits.
To sort all of this out, you’ll need to log into your Wizz profile on Wizz Air’s website – or call the Wizz Air call centre.
Wizz Air also has a compensation page where you can read up on your claim and under what circumstances – and then make a claim using the claim form provided.
Ryanair
If your Ryanair flight was grounded, you have two options: a full refund or a flight change.
Those who choose to just get their money back can apply on the refund page. Refunds are processed within five business days.
To rebook your flight for free, you must log into your My Ryanair account to make the exchange (subject to seat availability).
If your flight has been cancelled, you will be contacted by email and/or text message as soon as possible.
