As any commuter will know, UK railways have faced significant disruption in recent months due to a series of train strikes across a Salary and job dispute with Network Rail.

And while the last planned walkouts were canceled as a mark of respect following the Queen’s death on September 8, these are now set to take place over the next few weekends, with the first taking place today, October 1.

Many will, of course, support workers’ right to strike – but millions also rely on rail for transport and may therefore be wondering when the strike will end.

Here’s what you need to know.

When will the rail strike end?

The final train strike – which will see Aslef members disembark – ends at 11.59pm on 5 October.

While trains will resume service from 7am the following day, further disruptions are likely to occur on Thursday morning as services return to normal.

The strike affects the following railway companies:

  • Avanti West Coast
  • Chiltern Railway
  • cross country
  • Greater Anglia
  • Great Western Railway
  • Hull trains
  • LNER
  • London uplands
  • Northern Trains
  • southeast
  • TransPennine Express
  • West Midlands trains

The London Underground is not involved in this strike and Tube services will continue to operate as normal but may be busier than usual so allow plenty of time for your journey.

The Elizabeth Line will also operate, but Transport for London has warned there could be service disruptions.

However, no service is offered on the entire London Overground network.

If you are unsure whether your chosen rail company is participating in this strike, you should check their website for timetable information as they will detail which trains are not running, provide affected lines and service updates.

When are the next rail strikes?

More strikes planned for October 8 – RMT union members pull out.

TSSA managers and clerks will also go on strike on October 6-7, causing further disruption to some services across the country.
