The two Tory MPs in the race for the new one The Conservative leader – and our next Prime Minister – will face off tonight for the last time before the result of the vote is announced.

Following Boris Johnson’s resignation earlier this year, current Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and former Chancellor Rishi Sunak survived several rounds of voting by Conservative MPs to become the final contenders, with the new leader chosen solely by members of the Tory party.

The result is just days away and the winner will be announced on September 5th.

Now politically active Brits have the chance to scrutinize the two would-be PMs again in their final debate. Sparks may well fly as things were previously heated when the pair faced each other on TV.

So when will Sunak and Truss go head-to-head and how can you watch them?

Here’s everything you need to know.

When is the Tory leadership debate?

The next Tory leadership debate is on tonight (31 August) at 7 clock.

The LBC event takes place in London tonight in front of a large crowd of Tory members and will be moderated by breakfast show presenter Nick Ferrari.

At today’s event, the two candidates will compete against each other for the twelfth and final time.

In previous debates, candidates have exchanged verbal smacks over taxes and levies Economic policy, her record in government and her eligibility for election, and questions about the actions of her supporters (including a Twitter spat between Truss’ supporter Nadine Dorries MP and Sunak supporter Angela Richardson MP).

The July 26 debate on Talk TV was overshadowed after presenter Kate McCann passed out on set and collapsed – causing coverage to be halted and taken off the air.

Pressure has mounted on both candidates to announce more to help with soaring energy bills and the cost of living crisis.
