When is the Flower Moon Lunar Eclipse?

The Flower Moon lunar eclipse begins at 10:27 p.m. EDT.

This is exactly when Earth’s shadow begins to disturb the Moon’s typical whitish-yellow-grey color.

In the hour that follows, “during the eclipse, the Moon will receive only sunlight diffracted by Earth’s atmosphere and will change color over the course of minutes, going from gray to pink to orange to red,” according to USA Today.

Then, when it enters its total eclipse phase around 11:29 p.m. EDT, which will last until 12:53 a.m. EDT, the moon will appear red.

The eclipse peaks in all its red glory at approximately 12:11 p.m. EDT.

This is also known as the “blood moon” because of its bright red color.

Where is the best place to see the Flower Moon Lunar Eclipse?

You can check out this interactive Eclipse map, created by Time and Date, that will show you the exact time when you can expect what percentage of the moon will be eclipsed based on your location.

The east coast of the US is a prime spot to view this particular blood moon in its entirety.

According to the website, “the total solar eclipse will be visible from parts of the Americas, Antarctica, Europe, Africa and the eastern Pacific.”

“A penumbral eclipse (where the edge of Earth’s shadow passes over the Moon) is visible in New Zealand, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.”

Keep in mind that no special glasses are required for a lunar eclipse, and telescopes are recommended.

Even if your location is too cloudy for optimal viewing, you can still see the eclipse from your computer on the time and date Eclipse live view camera.

What is the Spiritual Significance of the Flower Moon Lunar Eclipse?

The Flower Moon (which occurs every May) gets its name because, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, it occurs during the peak of spring in the northern hemisphere

But there are also some spiritual meanings associated with the flower moon, particularly this one with the blood moon eclipse.

As Bustle explains, “The spiritual significance of the lunar climax in May reminds us that the transition from seed to flower requires a complete transformation, and that kind of rebirth isn’t always easy.”

“Full moons mark the illuminated midpoint of the monthly lunar cycle and are known to bring a surge of energy, tension, and heightened emotions,” the article continues.

That, plus the fact that “lunar eclipses in astrology are associated with rapid growth spurts, big changes, and startling revelations,” might make this the perfect time to cleanse your feelings in a journal.

Reflect on what bad habits are destroying your relationships, or thoroughly clean out your social media friends list.

Clean out your closet or take a nice Epsom salt bath.

While most full moons are considered ideal times to call in abundance and manifest new dreams, astrologer Sofia Adler told Popsugar that “this is a time to give up what doesn’t serve you.”

She added, “This moon’s name is apt because each flower begins as a seed buried in the dark, damp earth.”

“Nature knows that darkness has its purpose and will lead you to the light.”
