WHATSAPP is now opening a feature to move your chats to iPhone for more people.
This means that Android phone owners can end their Google devices much more easily.
The long-awaited feature was one of Apple’s most requested updates.
Until now, it has been almost impossible to move your WhatsApp chats from Android to iPhone when switching phones.
Apple announced plans to enable the feature a few weeks ago.
And now, WABetaInfo WhatsApp detectives have revealed that the latest beta update for Android gives “more users” the ability to do so.
Mark Zuckerberg – who runs WhatsApp’s (and Facebook’s) parent company Meta – said it was a high-demand change.
“We’re adding the ability for WhatsApp to securely switch phones and transfer your chat history, photos, videos and voice messages between Android and iPhone while maintaining end-to-end encryption,” Zuckerberg said.
“This is one of the most requested features. We introduced the iPhone to Android skill switch last year and are now adding Android to iPhone as well.”
If you have an Android phone, you need to install the latest version of Move to iOS from the Google Play Store.
This app already exists and is designed to transfer your Android texts, photos and more to new iPhone.
But it is now updated to include support for moving WhatsApp messages.
You must consent to the data being moved.
It’s then packaged – while remaining encrypted and invisible to Apple – and then moved to iOS.
The first time you log in to the iPhone, the WhatsApp data is decrypted and appears automatically.
The feature is available starting today on Android with WhatsApp Beta – a trial version of the app used to test new features.
You can join the beta for free, although the feature will eventually go live in the general release.
No internet connection is required for the transfer to work – it’s peer-to-peer.
And WhatsApp doesn’t need to be updated as the transition is done on the company’s own servers.
If you want to try all the latest WhatsApp features first, follow our guide on how to join the beta below.
How to get WhatsApp beta
To download WhatsApp Beta for your smartphone, you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.
Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.
Tap the “I’m in” button, then tap “Join” to confirm.
Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.
Participation in the WhatsApp Beta on iOS for iPhone is more difficult and has a limited capacity.
