What is World Naked Gardening Day and how is it celebrated?

WORLD NAKED GARDENING DAY encourages doing a normal household chore like gardening while being naked, which is also normal for a human being.

It aims to normalize body types and help people appreciate their bodies and those of others, rather than being ashamed or insecure about their bodies.

What is World Naked Gardening Day?

This event takes place every year and gardeners and non-gardeners alike celebrate by going into their gardens and doing chores naked.

World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) is not just an event, but an organization founded by Nude & Natural magazine consulting editor Mark Storey and permaculturist Jacob Gabriel.

It was founded on Saturday September 10, 2005 in partnership with Body Freedom Collaborative (BFC).

It’s not something huge investments have been made into, as the founders believe that this clothing freedom day will grow on its own as people see the value in it.

A website was initially created, but the event’s growth has been through participation.

This event is also supported by The Naturist Society, Clothes Free International and the American Association for Nude Recreation.

In 2012 it also became a collaborative project with the Naturist Education Foundation, Inc.

This event is described as “an annual tradition celebrating weeding, planting flowers and trimming hedges in the buff.

“Although associated with a movement of nudists promoting a healthy and shameless acceptance of the human body, the day is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and non-political.”

The founders also said that “besides the liberating effects of nude gardening, the second most important activity after swimming is where people are most willing to consider nudity.

When is World Naked Gardening Day?

The first event took place on the founding date in September, but then it was decided to move it to May 2018.

The New Zealand Naturist Association adjusted the event to October as it would better suit the southern hemisphere climate.

In Canada they have decided to move the event to June as it can be quite cold in May.

How is World Naked Gardening Day celebrated?

The event is sometimes held in a secluded area by those wishing to celebrate.

The founders were once helped by an unofficial clothing-optional beach on Lake Washington in Seattle.

In 2010, people were encouraged to go nude in either their private gardens or public parks in the UK.

If you want to celebrate this event but are not part of a gathering, you can just strip naked and plant in your garden. What is World Naked Gardening Day and how is it celebrated?
