Tennis ace Serena Williams returned to the sport after a 12-month hiatus at the Rothesay International.

40-year-old athlete and partner Ons Jabeur came out of a set to beat Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marie Bouzkova in women’s doubles.

The tournament came the next week ahead of William’s return to Wimbledon, where she was given a wildcard for the singles draw.

But her performance at Eastbourne gave fans a reason to talk for more than one reason.

Many wondered what was on the star’s face when she acted and why?

Here’s what you need to know.

What does Serena Williams wear on her face when she plays?

Williams was spotted with black band-aids or medical tape on her face during her last game.

The reason was because she suffers from sinus problems, according to The Times, and wearing it relieves pain and pressure.

Speaking to Reuters, Williams shared some tips for dealing with sinus problems.

She said: “To avoid some of the problems, it’s important not to use as much ice in your drinks. Sometimes this slows you down and puts you under pressure.

“I’ve learned that taking a hot, hot shower, as hot as you can take it, helps clear those aisles. And exercise helps a lot. That keeps you clear, keeps your chest clear, and keeps everything clear.
