London’s Connaught Bar is the best bar in the world – again.
That’s according to the “World’s 50 Best Bars”, an annual ranking by William Reed Business Media, a company also published in the UK”.50 best restaurants in the world” list.
After a lighthearted online ceremony in 2020, this year’s results were announced yesterday at a live event in London.
This is the second win in a row for Connaught Bar, which has ranked among the top five bars on the list since 2016.
The 50 Best organization began publishing its annual bar rankings in 2008. Since then, only two countries can claim to have “best bars” in the world – the UK and the United States. Ky.
This year remains the same.
Connaught Bar located inside the 5-star The Connaught hotel in Mayfair, London.
Backed by Italians Agostino Perrone and Giorgio Bargiani, the bar serves up classic drinks alongside its own creations, such as the “Mulata Daisy” which combines sweet rum and liqueur with creme de cacao, lime juice, sugar and cumin seeds.
“Connaught Bar remains classic and traditional in its core features, while we strive to push the boundaries of creativity and surprise our guests with innovative creations,” says Perrone. sophisticated and elegant”.
The menu changes every year, which keeps the bar from being “outdated”, he said.

In 13 years, just three bars – Milk and Honey, Artesian and now, Connaught Bar – have more than once topped lists of the world’s “best bars”. All are in London.
Previous bar winners can compete for the top spot year after year, unlike 50 best restaurants in the world list, preventing the winners from competing in the following years.
“We’ve never seen a winner in the bar industry for a year,” said Mark Sansom, content editor at 50 Best. “We don’t see the need to bring [the rule] for the bar. “
This year’s ranking includes bars from 17 countries, with 18 new entries on the list.

Singapore topped the Asia rankings with six bars, while Hong Kong and Shanghai both came in third. New Delhi’s sidecar is the first time India has appeared on the list since 2010.

In Europe, London bars occupy three places on the list – including the prestigious No. 1 and No. 2. Barcelona added three and Milan added two to the continent total.
Eight bars in North America made the list. New York City – home to previous #1 winners The Dead Rabbit and Dante – clung to the top 10 list with Katana Kitten, a Japanese-style bar taking tenth place. Dante, #1 in 2019 and #2 in 2020, has slipped to 30th this year.
For the first time ever, Mexico City outperformed New York. Four of its bars appear on the list, with Licorería Limantour taking the number 6 spot.
Three South American bars – all in Buenos Aires, Argentina – make the list of the top 50, with Floreria Atlantico in fifth place.
Australia has carved four bars into the list – three in Sydney, one in Melbourne – and two more in the Middle East, both in Dubai.
This list is a compilation of the votes of about 600 “experts” in the industry, according to the 50 Best organization.
“They were chosen from about a third bartender and bar owner; about a third of beverage journalists, writers and educators; and about a third of cocktail enthusiasts,” said Sansom.
Each person voted for the seven best bars they’ve been to in the past 18 months. Bar owners and employees may not nominate their own bar. Every bar in the world – from luxury hotel bars to pubs – can be chosen.
Mezcal, served here at Mexico City’s Licorería Limantour, is expected to become a popular beverage trend by 2022.

There are no set criteria, and voters can rate whatever they choose, Mr. Sansom said.
“Obviously, great drinks are probably the most important thing,” he said. “But I think what voters consider, and certainly what I consider when entering a bar, is how I feel … as soon as I walk in.”
By 2020, voters must choose at least two bars outside of their home country. The 50 Best Foundation dropped this requirement due to pandemic-related travel restrictions.
Instead, voters were also asked to consider how bars are responding to the pandemic.
“Bars that really take care of their community and those around them have been…rewarded,” says Sansom.
Media and television programs influence the popularity of certain cocktails, Sansom said.
“We’re seeing a lot of different vermouths on the market right now,” Sansom said, referring to the spiced and herbal spirits. “And I think the Mexican mezcal is enjoying its moment.”
Bargiani, master mixologist at Connaught Bar, largely agrees.
“The rise in popularity of agave spirits, the renaissance of gin and vodka, and the return of vermouths, fortified spirits and herbal liqueurs, has led to the growth of the brewing industry,” he said. contemporary regime”.

Bargiani says simpler creations, featuring traditional spirits and local ingredients, and geared towards more responsible drinking will also dominate the cocktail market in the coming years.
