West Ham have offered Declan Rice a rather incredible £150million price tag, with Manchester United and Chelsea interested in the midfielder but likely not that number.

Still just 23, Rice has long been linked with a move from the Hammers, with United, Chelsea and Manchester City touted as potential targets.

The England international is not publicly pushing for a move but is likely to make the jump to a bigger club at some point as his contract at West Ham runs until 2024 – with the club subject to a further year extension.

The Hammers will concede him beforehand and clearly do not intend to lose him on a free transfer, but if it is this summer they want it to be a British record transfer.

The Daily Mail report that West Ham will insist on £150m for his outstanding talent, which would break the British record set last summer when Manchester City paid Aston Villa £100m for Jack Grealish.

In fact, that would make Rice the third most expensive player of all time, behind only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, which would be quite remarkable.

Whether West Ham could get what they want remains to be seen as neither United nor Chelsea are likely to spend that much money on the Englishman.

The Hammers’ chances are hampered by the uncertainty at Chelsea as club owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government and is set to be sold in the near future.

It’s unclear what their summer purchasing power will be as the Blues are currently unable to buy players under the sanctions, although they shouldn’t be until the transfer window opens.

If the Red Devils are the only realistic buyer for Rice then £150m is extremely unlikely as there would be no bidding war.

The situation at Old Trafford is also uncertain as the manager for next season is still unknown and any major signing is likely to have to be approved by the new boss.
