Wesley Fofana has arrived to say goodbye Leicester City fans face a move to Chelsea.

Chelsea have taken a big step towards signing Fofana by agreeing personal terms with the 24-year-old centre-back.

After Leicester’s 4-2 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday, Fofana went alone to the Foxes fans and applauded them while all the other players chatted, swapped shirts and hugged.

Chelsea have seen two offers for Fofana rejected but Leicester appear to be softening their stance and would accept a fee in the region of £80m.

Publicly, at least, Leicester claim the player is not for sale as Rodgers believe Fofana would be better served if he stayed for another season.

Fofana, who is contracted until 2027, joined Leicester from Ligue 1 Saint-Etienne in 2020 for a fee of £36.5million and has made 52 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions and helped them win the 2020-21 FA Cup to win.

Fofana is yet to win his first cap for France but has represented the Under-21 side five times.

He could join left-back Marc Cucurella and centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly in west London, who joined the Blues from Brighton and Napoli respectively this summer as Chelsea rebuilt their defense under new owner Todd Boehly.

Chelsea spotted Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen earlier in the window, who went to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

Leicester have already lost goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to French club Nice this summer, while James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans have all been linked with departures.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are confident they can secure a deal to sign Frenkie de Jong next week, with Chelsea cooling their interest in the Barcelona star.

The Blues had hoped the appeal of Champions League football this season would persuade De Jong to opt for a move to Stamford Bridge but are now shelving their interest to focus on finding a defender and get a striker.
