Expensive botox injections and facelifts that can go horribly wrong – the two things we usually associate with trying to look younger.
But according to two professional hairstylists, the miracle answer to a more youthful look might lie in how you part your tresses.
Fabulous spoke to Martin O’Sullivan, Company Director at O’Sullivan’s, and Carole, Senior Stylist at the boutique hair salon, to find out some ways to style your parting and some that will only add years to your face.
What is it:
Arguably one of the most popular ways to part your hair. The chic and sleek center parting is loved by many including Kate Middleton who uses this hairstyle to shave years off her face.
Martin says, “Center parting can be very harsh when you have lines on your forehand and can definitely age.”
Carol agrees, adding that this is a no-no bye if you have a bigger nose as it just draws attention to it and makes it appear bigger.
What is it:
The side parting is just as popular. But while some believe it will look younger, one mother was shocked after her daughter said the side parting makes her look “old”.
Carole explains, “A side parting will soften your features and is best if you have a prominent nose to soften the look.”
Martin agrees, “Side parting, especially with slightly longer side bangs, will soften the look.”
Zig zag farewell
What is it: With the comeback of the 2000s, the farewell that was still popular 20 years ago is trendier than ever.
As the name suggests, it involves taking a comb and parting it in a zig zag line.

Carole says, “Having a throwback to the ’00s, a zigzag parting will help hide regrowth and give you more time between shades.”
Other Dos & Don’ts
According to the two beauty gurus, there are other hair secrets to keep in mind when looking for ways to look younger.
Martin says, “Dramatic cuts and styles with exaggerated parting tend to be the least flattering as we age. Remember fleasack.
He continues, “Layers, long or short, are always flattering and easily managed with soft, directional partings that are very easy to style.”
“Very blunt and very short fringes can be age related and are not recommended and should be avoided especially if you have a large or a particularly small forehead.”
