WHEN this week’s heatwave is over, summer is already here, which means it’s time to switch your signature scent to something lighter.
Whether you’re flying away or on a short vacation, we’re putting the season’s hottest fragrances to the test.

BEAUTY: with Tara Ledden
BUDGET – Caudalie Fresh Fragrance Soleil des Vignes, £28 for 50ml, uk.caudalie.com:
Heady notes of coconut and orange make this bargain-buy scent as uplifting as a sun-drenched morning at the beach, without extortionate airfares or long security lines.

The addition of vanilla and jasmine adds depth to the scent, taking it from sickly to sophisticated, although it’s definitely for those with an insatiable sweet tooth.
Inspired by summers in southern France, it reminds me of massaging sunscreen into warm skin on a hot afternoon without anything sticky.
Plus, the packaging is fully recyclable and the formula is vegan, so it’s better for the planet than traveling abroad, too.
MEDIUM – Goutal Paris Eau d’Hadrien Eau de Toilette, £76 for 50ml, lookfantastic.com:
If you’re inclined to citrus scents, you’ll love this acidic, sparkling scent.

Packed with a refreshing cocktail of Sicilian Lemon, Grapefruit, Green Mandarin and Bergamot, it’s as lemony as you can get, and the perfume equivalent of an Aperol spritz, injecting happy hour energy into lazy, sun-kissed days.
Woody cypress adds a green, savory note that grounds the bubbly spritz and makes it just as wearable on rainy days during the great British summer.
I find it doesn’t last as long as I’d like, but that’s often the case with notes this bright. So if you want something that lasts longer, you need a heartier perfume.
LUXURY – Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Celestia Cologne Forte Eau de Parfum, £165 for 70ml, selfridges.com:
This fragrance is as pure as it comes, smelling like a breath of fresh salty air and drying to a slightly powdery hint accompanied by hints of lemon.

Reminiscent of drying clothes on a line, it’s the ultimate scent for good skin that works just as well for men as it does for women.
It has quickly become my favorite scent as it is not at all sweet but seems to last forever.

I can still smell it on my skin before I take a shower the next morning!
If you’re looking for something that will earn compliments, it’s worth the investment.
