MOST families love the idea of being able to travel far and wide with their kids, but are put off by the reality of cramming into such a small space.
But this family decided they didn’t mind living on top of each other and moved out of their spacious home into a tiny trailer.
Jen, Kirt and their two children used to live in a big house with a farm and 11 acres of land before leaving it all to live in a trailer in the back of their car.
Jen explained to Tiny House Giant Journey, “We’ve been on the road for about a year and a half now.”
The family lived in a van for the first year of their trip, but it quickly outgrew it as their son got older.
After selling the van, they spent the next two months renovating their new home—a slightly larger trailer that fits in the back of a truck.
There was plenty to do to make the caravan a home, including a 1,850 watt solar panel on the roof.
Although small the interior of the kitschy house looks impressive, there is a fully equipped kitchen with everything a cool home could ever need.
Jen explained, “This is our home and I wanted it to feel like a little cabin” as she showed off the kitchen cabinet design.
Hanging baskets provide plenty of space for storing spices and fresh fruit without taking up important storage space.
The family doesn’t have much privacy as their entire bathroom is hidden behind a curtain and contains a toilet and shower head that you have to hold yourself.
The family literally sleeps on top of each other in their house, with Kirt and Jean dozing downstairs and their son above them in bunk beds.
Jen said: “We have a queen-size bed, it’s a full-size queen, and that was one of the things that we really didn’t want to compromise on because sleep is important.
“We were super excited to find that we could fit on a standard size mattress.”
The family each have a small closet to store their clothes apart from Jen who managed to pack two.
But there is more than enough space to fit everything they need in the room.
Across from the kitchen is the family’s living space, they have an upholstered bench for relaxing and a folding table for eating and working.
