[WATCH] Trump compares himself to Jesus in “SNL” Cold Open

When Donald Trump was impeached last week, that didn’t cause his die-hard supporters to wake up and get off the ship. But on the contrary. As predicted, it powered the GOP’s MAGA wing. One of his more prominent students, Marjorie Taylor Greene, even compared him to Nelson Mandela and Jesus Christ. (She wasn’t the first to do so.) Eventually, they too were arrested. She handed it over SNL writing team an Easter present.

The latest episode began with an Easter special starring Mikey Day as Jesus re-enacting the Last Supper with his disciples. At one point, Jesus von Day declares that he has “committed no crime” and predicted that he would be “arrested, tried and found guilty.”

“Sound familiar?” says James Austin Johnson’s Trump as he interrupts the conversation to find similarities, no matter how blasphemous, between himself and the Son of God, whom he describes as a “famous, wonderful man who was arrested without any cause.” He then made his point all the more clear, saying, “If you haven’t put it together, folks, I’ve compared myself to Jesus again.”

He added, “And what better time than on his birthday, Easter.”

Many of SNL’s Trump sketches go far into the absurd, but this one — one of their better digs of the former president — actually sounds eerily close to something he’d actually say at his rallies, straying wildly from script and saying things that should insult his evangelical base – but don’t do it.

For example, while comparing himself to Christ, he could not help but claim that he was better. “He rose from the dead on the third day. “I could have done it faster,” he said. He then called Jesus a “Nepo-Baby”, ignoring of course that he is one too.

Trump found another point of comparison between himself and Jesus that he would not admit out loud because he would incriminate himself, saying, “Just like Jesus, all I did was kind to a sex worker and now they want me.” put in jail.”
