Warrington: Woman gives birth to baby the size of toddler

One woman gave birth to a baby she says was “the size of a toddler” with a “head the size of a melon.”
Midwives gasped as Ruby Eden, 24, welcomed their newborn son Teddie into the world.
He weighed a whopping 12 pounds.
Teddie was born at 5.45pm on August 1, 2022 – eight days after his due date at Warrington Hospital.
Ruby was originally told by doctors that he would likely weigh somewhere around the 9 pound mark.
After his birth, Teddie tipped the scales when midwives attempted to weigh him and knocked them over.
He was born with a condition called polyhydramnios, which occurs when there is too much amniotic fluid around the baby during pregnancy.
Ruby and husband Chris, 27, were forced to put Teddie straight into outfits for three-month-old babies because the newborn clothes were too small for him.
Ruby recalled the moment she first saw her son: “I was extremely shocked when I first saw Teddie.
“He was like a toddler. He was massive. My husband saw him and just said, “He’s a fat boy” when he was stunned.
“All the midwives gasped when they saw Teddie coming out and I wish I had filmed the facial expressions of my family members when they first met him.
“Everyone was so shocked and confused as to why Teddie was such a big baby.
“While I was pregnant with him, my belly was smaller than my daughter’s.
“He must have hidden the weight somehow.
“I brought a newborn size hat to the hospital for Teddie and there was just no chance it would fit on his head.
“It was the size of a small honeydew melon and the nurse had to get me an extra large baby melon.
“When he was put on the scale in the operating room after he was born, he almost knocked her over. Even though he was a newborn, he seemed too big for her.”
Ruby was prepared to give birth to a bigger baby because her daughter, Delilah-Rose, weighed 9 pounds, but nothing prepared her for Teddie’s weight.
“I never expected to have a child who weighs almost 12 pounds,” she said.
“I’m glad I had a c-section and not a natural birth.”
Teddie spent some time in and out of hospital at the age of six weeks and lost a lot of weight due to problems with his liver.
He is now seven months old and Ruby and Chris are delighted to say they have a happy, healthy baby boy who enjoys playing with his older sister.
Ruby has no plans to have more children but wonders if she has ever had another baby, if it would be that big.
She said: “He’s such a happy smiley baby and my husband and I are so proud of him.
“He’s still considered an extremely large baby for his age.
“Me and Chris don’t want any more children but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was another big baby or even bigger than Teddie if we had another one.
“There seems to be a pattern to it, and they get bigger each time.”
