ALEXA owners are warned to prepare as Amazon plans to add a new, annoying feature to the smart device.
In 2023, Alexa will start answering users’ questions with advertisements for products you can buy on Amazon.
This is a big change from the device’s current method of asking questions, which consists of gathering advice from the internet.
The feature, titled “Customers Ask Alexa,” was announced at the Amazon Accelerate conference, according to TechCrunch.
It works by allowing brands to promote their products as possible answers to specific questions.
Amazon further explained, “Amazon has introduced a new Alexa-based feature aimed at helping brands answer common customer questions.”
“The feature is called Customers ask Alexa and it works like this: When customers ask Alexa questions, including questions about a product’s features or compatibility, Alexa responds with helpful answers from brands in those product categories.”
For example, if a customer asks how they can remove pet hair from their carpet, a brand could answer the question and provide a link to their Amazon storefront.
“Brands enrolled in the Amazon Brand Registry will see the New Customers Ask Alexa feature in Seller Central, where they can use self-service tools to easily find and answer common customer questions,” Amazon added.
The tech giant noted that all responses will go through Alexa’s content moderation.
Additionally, a quality check is performed before Alexa selects the most relevant response to share with customers.
