Walsall: Man, 29, stabbed to death at Colliseum nightclub

A 29-year-old man was stabbed to death at a nightclub while a murder investigation is ongoing.
The incident happened just after 5am today at Valesha’s nightclub in Walsall, known locally as the Colliseum, on Newport Street.
Officials believe there was a fight at the club.
The victim was taken to hospital after the attack but died there at 6am, West Midlands Police confirmed.
No arrests have been made yet.
Detective Inspector Ade George said: “The events of this morning are tragic and shocking, a man has sadly lost his life and we will offer as much support as we can to his family at this deeply distressing time.
“Our priority is to catch those responsible.
“Although we spoke to a number of people who were at the club at the time, we still need to hear from everyone who was there and saw or possibly filmed what happened.”
A man who was at the club witnessed an argument between at least two people that escalated into violence.
He described scenes of “pandemonium” as people tried to flee the club.
The man, who asked not to be named, said: “There was a scuffle or brawl at the club. I went to the front and the guy has blood on his face. The guy was in the door.
“A fight started between a few people. In the next minute there was a small brawl. It was the bouncer’s turn. It looked like they were fighting.
“A lot of people were everywhere, near the cloakroom where the guy was lying on the floor. There was screaming, screaming, crying. i saw blood Then the paramedics came.”
The area around Newport Street remains closed and cordoned off by police this afternoon.
A police spokesman said: “We understand the concerns over recent knife crimes in Walsall town center and neighborhood officers will be patrolling the area in the coming days to offer reassurance.”
Police and staff were helping to evacuate the club when an investigation into the incident was launched.
An estimated 150 people were in the Colliseum at the time.
Owner Valesha Anderson said: “I was upstairs at the time so I didn’t see anything. I’m really sad to see what happened. I just opened in October.
“I wanted to make it a fun place where people could have a drink and party with their friends, and now it’s happened. It’s a shame it’s ruined.’
The violence comes just weeks after Bailey Atkinson, 20, was killed on the High Street in Walsall town centre.
The club is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future.
