Walmart’s $5.97 hot meal gets praise
At a time when food prices are skyrocketing, Americans are looking for a way to save money at the dinner table.
Several users on TikTok have gone viral after sharing hacks to get meals on a budget. One user claimed she saved money on groceries by ordering kids meals for pickup. Another suggested shopping for goods at the dollar store.
A third advised viewers to pick up food from the hot bar at Walmart, claiming they could get a full meal for just over $5. Now a user on TikTok has tested this theory – and succeeded.
In a video with over 2.6 million views, TikTok user Samantha (@samantha420gonzalez) shows off a boneless wing meal from Walmart that came with two side dishes. The total price? $5.97.

In the comments, users commented on the deal, even if they distrusted the low price.
“Had this today,” claimed one user. “I had some boneless wing wedges and some plantains so they must be using some alligator meat but you can’t beat 5.97.”
“I haven’t eaten a Walmart deli in ages, but the Chicken Tenders and Potato Wedges SLAP,” added another.
“Walmart has fire food,” said another TikToker.
Other users offered similar savings tips.
“Kroger also sells good hot food! Some even have BBQ!” exclaimed one user.
“Same goes for Safeway or Korger, whatever you have in your area,” noted a second.
“ShopRite too,” shared a third. “They have a good hot meal for the lowly.”
However, some feared that such promotion of the deal would result in the store raising its prices.
“NO. DON’T DO THIS. IT’S MY HOLY SECRET,” wrote one commenter.
“Well now they’re going to raise prices smh,” said another TikToker.
The Daily Dot contacted Samantha via TikTok comment.
