When it comes to South Indian cuisine, it’s hard not to mention the soft, fluffy, and mouthwatering idlis! Idli has long been our favorite comfort food. This dish is often available at street vendors and restaurants, and can also be easily prepared at our homes. And the best part is that we have so many varieties in idlis that we never have enough. Whether you prefer your idli soaked in sambhar or mixed with fiery flavorings – there are always some recipes that captivate our taste buds. However, in a recent event, a ‘black man’ made many people unhappy.
In a video shared by food blogger @eatographers on Instagram, we can see black idli being prepared. The video begins with a street vendor pouring black powder and steaming it to make idlis. When it was fluffy, he took them out and dipped them with buttermilk, red chili powder, and chili sauce. According to the blogger, this idli comes from an eatery in Nagpur. In the video’s caption, the blogger also mentioned that this black idli is a “detox idli” and “not for pregnant women.” Take a look at this again:
Since the video was posted, it has garnered 2.5 million views, 96.9k likes and hundreds of comments. Many people have expressed their disappointment at this unique idli.

This needs to stop.” While many other users have also asked about what is being used in the idli to make it look black. Many users have said that it can be idli “ragi idli” or “compassion”.
