Vice Captain KL Rahul: KL Rahul replaces Rohit Sharma as VP for Test series in South Africa

Vice-captain KL Rahul: The Indian tennis player will compete in the next 3 matches in South Africa as Virat Kohli’s vice-captain.

Indian hitter Lokesh Rahul has been promoted as vice-captain of the Test team for the upcoming three-match Test series in South Africa. Rahul, who will be vice-captain to captain Virat Kohli, has replaced white-ball captain Rohit Sharma, who has been officially announced as vice-captain of the Test in original team.

While it was Sharma’s first appointment as Kohli’s vice-captain in Test cricket, the former replaced his Mumbai team-mate Ajinkya Rahane as Test’s vice-captain. Struggling to run At the highest level for almost a year now, Rahane has been dropped from the leadership post for a tour of South Africa.

With Sharma missing the Test series in South Africa due to hamstring injury, the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma assigned Rahul the responsibility.

Rahul, 29, served as Sharma’s vice-captain in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand last month. Rahul’s first time traveling as vice-captain with the white Indian team was during India’s tour of Australia last year.

“The All India Senior Selection Committee has appointed KL Rahul as vice-captain for the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. KL Rahul replaces Rohit Sharma as vice-captain, who was dropped from the Test series due to a hamstring injury,” the BCCI (Cricket Control Board in India) said in the official statement.

Rahul’s rise to the Test team came quickly as he hadn’t played a Test match in nearly several years before returning on tour of England earlier this year.

ONE injury for Rahul’s Karnataka teammate Mayank Agarwal before the First Test at Trent Bridge opened the way for Rahul to return to Playing XI as the opening header. Not letting a chance slip by, Rahul ended the streak as India’s second-highest goalscorer with 315 runs in eight innings for an average of 39.37 including one century and half a century each.

In the event of Sharma’s absence, Rahul will open against Agarwal in his first match against South Africa in Centurion, scheduled to start on December 26. Vice Captain KL Rahul: KL Rahul replaces Rohit Sharma as VP for Test series in South Africa
