USPS worker says he’s hiring — and he’s making $67,000 a year

A United States Postal Service employee issued a callout to TikTok, informing viewers that his job is closing. But the video sparked debate when he said he makes $67,000 a year.

The worker, Lukas (@lukasthegiant), says in a recently shared video that the post office is shutting down. He claims workers start at $20 an hour but have the potential to earn more than that. When postal workers work more than eight hours a day, they make up “an hour and a half” of their hourly wage, he says. If they work more than 10 hours a day, they earn double their wages.

If a USPS worker works overtime, he’s likely working a total of 55 hours a week, Lukas says. At that rate, he claims, they would make about $67,000 a year.

“Well, I can’t stress that enough. The Post is hiring,” says Lukas in his video. “We need help, especially at my post office.”

On Tuesday, Lukas’ video received around 671,000 views on TikTok. Viewers had mixed reactions. Several said postal workers endured a “toxic” work environment.

“And it’s one of the most toxic jobs. A relative of mine tells the most terrifying stories about working there,” commented one viewer.

“You can make good money at the Post but there is no work-life balance and it’s such a toxic work environment,” argued another user.

Other alleged postal workers offered their two cents.

“Rural airline here… I give you LOTS of credit urban airlines… I couldn’t do it… Glad I’m in the countryside,” said one user.

“Yeah, and 7 days a week and an average of 11 hours lol I’ve been doing this for 7 years,” wrote another user.

One ex-worker commented: ‘Most people can’t handle a job at the post office. Was a land transporter for 26 years.”

Working conditions aside, some viewers added that $20 an hour is “not that much” anyway.

The Daily Dot reached out to the USPS via email and Lukas via TikTok comment.
