US Senate confirms Lisa Cook as first black woman on Fed board

Federal Reserve nominee Lisa Cook received Senate confirmation Tuesday, becoming the first black woman to sit on the central bank’s board of governors.

The Senate voted partisanly 51-50 to confirm it, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the casting vote.

Cook’s term expires in 2024.

No Republican supported Cook, so Democrats had to wait until all 50 Democratic senators were sane and eligible to vote. An earlier vote to end the debate last month failed as many Democrats were absent due to COVID.

The GOP is sad after two of President Donald Trump’s nominees for the Fed were rejected by the Senate.
