An American assistant professor experienced a traveler’s nightmare when he entered his Airbnb London and found it was just a bathroom with a bed in it.

David Holtz, who teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, shared a photo of the accommodation, which shows a bed right next to the toilet, with a shower and sink across from it.

“That feeling when you arrive at your Airbnb and realize that the entire space is essentially just a big bathroom with the host putting a bed in it.” tweeted David Holtz.

According to Jam Press, Holtz first sensed something was wrong with Airbnb when he saw that the listing had no reviews.

He complained to Airbnb, which said it would investigate the matter.

‘Hello David. “Thank you for reaching out to us,” he wrote Airbnb in response to his original tweet. “Please send us a DM with the email address associated with your Airbnb account so we can take a closer look.”

Holtz responded, “I’ve spoken to customer support several times and every account representative I’ve interacted with has shown no interest in helping resolve the issue. Can I expect a different result this time?”

The assistant professor said that Airbnb has not yet reached out to him with a solution.

Airbnb told the New York Post, “Our customer service team has reached out to this guest to provide assistance.” We encourage our guests to review all photos, as well as the description and reviews before booking a stay.”

Social media users were amused by the unattractive short-term rental.

“This is an AirBnPee” joked one Twitter user.

Another user noticed: “You have everything you need within reach.”

The hotel booking app Safari answered, ‘Oh God!! We’ll cover the cost of one night’s hotel accommodation for you – just let us know!’

Apparently it wasn’t the only one of its kind in town.

“I had a copy just like that in London. It was in 2016 I think… left after 20 minutes (it was super dirty) and luckily found another Airbnb…” wrote another Twitter user.

Some Twitter users drew comparisons to New York City’s notoriously small and subpar accommodations, despite high prices.

In late 2021, a TikTok user shared photos of her Airbnb in the Big Apple, which appeared to have a window looking directly into a restaurant.

“I pull back the blinds and there are no buildings,” she said. “We’re in a restaurant.”
