Urgent warning to millions of Android users about security vulnerabilities in pre-installed apps that CANNOT be removed

MILLIONS of Android users are warned about security vulnerabilities in apps that come preinstalled on their phones.

The vulnerabilities were discovered by the Microsoft 365 Defender Research Team and reported on the Microsoft security blog.

According to the research team, the vulnerabilities have now been fixed, but the vulnerabilities could have been vulnerable to attackers trying to obtain sensitive information.

Users have been warned that they should ensure their phones have the latest updates to ensure the fixes are applied.

Microsoft reported that the issues are contained within a mobile framework “used by several major wireless carriers in pre-installed Android system apps.”

Liabilities within the apps “potentially expose users to remote (albeit sophisticated) or local attacks,” Microsoft said.

The company says the issues were resolved by working with mobile framework developer mce Systems and the wireless carriers affected by the issue.

“We commend the quick and professional resolution of the mce Systems engineering teams, as well as relevant vendors, in resolving each of these issues,” Microsoft said in its report.

“Collaboration among security researchers, software vendors, and the security community is important to continually improve defenses for the larger ecosystem.”

As a result of the joint efforts that successfully fixed the issue, the affected users can continue using the apps without any concerns.

Microsoft’s discovery of the vulnerabilities in Android system apps stems from general investigations into pre-installed applications.

The team says they wanted to “better understand” how mobile device security is affected by these types of apps.

As part of mce Systems, they discovered an element that could have been exploited by attackers to take control of the device remotely.
