UK car sales fell 24% in June, their worst monthly performance in 26 years.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said 140,958 vehicles were registered, which the trade organization attributed to problems with component supplies, exacerbated by restrictions in China.
For the year, registrations are down 12%, the SMMT said.
The only segment to see growth was battery electric vehicles, which are up 15% in June and 56% this year.
“However, as drivers face rising fuel costs, switching to an electric car makes more and more sense and the industry is working hard to improve supply and delivery of these new technologies given the savings they can afford for drivers. to prioritize,” said Mike Hawes, CEO of SMMT, in a statement.
The top vehicles in June were the Stelllantis STLA,
Vauxhall Corsa, Tesla’s TSLA,
Model Y and the BMW by BMW,
