Uber driver refuses to take toll road paid by customer

One Uber customer said her driver refused to use the toll road — even after paying extra to do so.

The customer, JuJu (@jazzyju), wrote about her experience on TikTok, saying she booked the Uber ride when she was late for work. Her video has been viewed nearly 80,000 times as of Monday.

In the video, the customer sat in the back seat of the car and recorded how slowly the driver drove. The text overlay read, “I literally told him I was late for work and that I paid extra for the toll lane.”

JuJu said her Uber driver refused to take the toll lane and claims the extra money she paid doesn’t go to him – so he would still have to pay the toll out of his own pocket. Because he didn’t want to take the toll, the two had to sit in traffic. She showed the car’s speedometer, which barely hits 60 miles per hour.

Although the driver insisted he did not receive the extra money the customer had paid for the toll, some viewers speculated that the driver deliberately lied and pocketed the extra money.

“He gets the toll…” commented one viewer.

“He probably gets paid for the toll lane but drives the regular lane and pocket it,” wrote a second.

A third said: “He literally gets the toll… the guy just pocketed that. 1 star, tip removed.”

Some users suspected that the driver intentionally lengthened the ride because he was being paid based on the length of each ride.

“I think the longer the job, the more money he gets?” said one user.

Another wrote: “My driver missed the exit last week and the round trip added an additional $21 to the bill. Never denied anything so quickly.”

Others urged the customer to give the driver a bad review and even retract the tip she left him.

“You can remove the tip,” noted one viewer.

Another commented: “It’s ok to remove the tip [and] Give a well-deserved review.”
