Paying for parking can always feel like you are being scammed. It’s bad enough that you spend cash on your car payment, gas, car insurance and tolls, but now you have to pay just to park your car somewhere?
Even worse, parking at special events sometimes culminates in ridiculous surcharges, but an Uber driver might have figured out an ingenious “hack” to get into event parking for free: just pretend you’re a rideshare driver who has some fans dropped off at the venue.

@Scottyrides is an Uber driver who posts clips of his rides on his TikTok account. In a video that went viral recently, we can see him pulling up to an event with two women in the back seat. He tells the parking attendant who’s trying to charge him $20 for a spot, “I’m just getting off.” He then jokes with the passengers, next time you’re at an event that charges parking, tell them simply that you are an Uber driver getting off.
Scotty begins the clip with a spoken text overlay that reads, “How to park for free at sporting events.”
An additional overlay reads: “The Über technology for free parking everywhere.”
The Uber driver clarified in the comments, “That was just a joke by the way,” and even posted a follow-up video, writing in the caption, “Guys. That was a joke! I should have made that clearer and I apologize for that. If anything, I bring awareness that stadiums are paying attention and have better Uber and Lyft drop-off accommodations.”

Commentators had a lot to say about Scotty’s parking sensors.
Some said there are stadiums where this doesn’t work as there are routes designated for taxis and ride-sharing services to drop off and pick up people: ‘Where is this? The venues I visit have designated drop off areas that do not lead to parking.”
According to Scotty, the Anaheim Honda Center does not have dedicated lanes/routes for Uber and Lyft drivers.
Others thought this “hack” was a surefire way to exit the arena and find your car missing: “They’re going to tow your car.”
Another commenter said: “And 30 minutes later the tow truck driver will come and say, ‘Hi, I’m just picking up.'”
However, others said they tried the hack themselves and it worked perfectly: “I used to do this when I had my Lyft sticker on my car and opened the app.”
The Daily Dot has reached out to Scotty for further comment on TikTok.
