Trump had more than 300 classified documents in Mar-a-Lago: report

The US government has retrieved more than 300 classified documents from former President Donald Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago this year, according to a new report.

The New York Times reported late Monday that the first batch of documents retrieved from the national archives in January contained 150 documents marked as classified, the rest were retrieved from Trump’s Florida residence in June and during the FBI raid earlier this month.

The number of classified documents had not previously been reported, and the Times said the sheer quantity could explain why the Justice Department went so energetically in August to obtain additional documents.

The Times added that the fact that so many classified documents remained after several government requests for their return suggested Trump was not cooperating and was handling them in an unconcerned manner.

Earlier Monday, Trump’s attorneys asked a federal judge to appoint a special master to review the seized documents, which Trump claims are private and protected by executive privileges, even though he was no longer president. Trump had more than 300 classified documents in Mar-a-Lago: report
