Tributes to ‘beloved’ son killed in ‘vicious’ attack by armed gang near Asda
The family of a young man murdered after being ambushed by a armed gang near an Asda have paid tribute to their ‘beloved boy’.
Bailey Atkinson, 20, was attacked by a group on the High Street in Walsall in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He was hospitalized after the 1:20 am attack but tragically died two hours later.
His family said in a statement: “We respectfully ask for privacy at this time as we mourn the loss of our beloved boy Bailey.
“Our kindhearted and much loved son, brother and grandson.
“Bailey was loved so much by so many and will be missed so much.”
“We are asking if anyone has any information please get in touch to help the police in their investigation to catch the people who did this and took our boy away.”
A planned balloon launch in memory of Bailey to take place tonight was canceled by the family in an appeal for privacy at the time.
West Midlands Police said the murder investigation into Bailey’s death was continuing and officers were working “around the clock” to arrest those behind the murder.
A police spokesman said: “The scene in Walsall town center remains and we are searching an area of Willenhall where two vehicles have been found with fire damage.
“Our investigation is progressing and we are pursuing a number of positive investigation directions.
“Anyone with CCTV, cellphone or dashcam footage has been asked not to share on social media but to get in touch with us.”
Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby of Walsall Police previously made this appeal: “This was senseless violence which claimed one man’s life and our top priority is to apprehend those responsible.
“But we are also very aware that people are concerned about what has happened and are also angry.
“I would urge people to cooperate with us in our investigation and get in touch with any information.
“We are committed to working with partners across the county to ensure Walsall is a safe place to be and I have spoken to people in the community to reassure them of the steps we are taking to ensure this. ”
