Toys-4-Tats: The St. Charles Artist is running a holiday special to help children in need

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — A tattoo shop in St. Charles has made it a holiday tradition to collect toys and give back to the community.

For the past five years, Permanent Vacation Tattoo has held its Toys 4 Tats event to raise toy donations. Anyone who brought a toy worth $50 or more and a receipt could stand in line for a free tattoo.

“For me, it’s a service to give back and a way to give back to our community and keep the toys safe here in the St. Charles and St. Louis area,” said Joe Cumbee, owner of Permanent Vacation Tattoo.

Crews from the Central County Fire Department gathered Saturday to support the event and spread the holiday cheer

“We were just lucky enough to already have a relationship with him and to come along on the side to provide BBQ and hot chocolate to people waiting in line. They’ve been in the building since 3:30 this morning,” he told Jason Meinershagen, deputy chief of community relations for Central County Fire Rescue.

The Foster Adoption Support Team (FAST) has been collecting toy donations and will help with the next steps of distribution to the community.

“While we’re here, we’re adding toys to our site. All the toys that come, our families can buy on this website, all for free for them. And later this week we have an event where they can come and pick up their toys,” said Jennifer Phillips, vice president of FAST

Smiling faces everywhere, this event is about giving and coming together.

“My favorite part of the event is seeing the people out here with the people and having the giving attitude and happy spirit that people want to make a difference in their community. I just enjoy knowing that we put smiles on children’s faces on Christmas morning,” Meinershagen said.

“The giving of people and the ability for us to use our gifts and give back to those around us and those less fortunate than us,” Cumbee said of what he likes about Toys 4 Tats. Toys-4-Tats: The St. Charles Artist is running a holiday special to help children in need
