A tourist who allegedly destroyed the Colosseum in Rome by carving his and his girlfriend’s names on it has been named.

Ivan Dimitrov, who calls himself Ivan Hawkins, is a fitness trainer living in Bristol.

The 27-year-old was reportedly caught last weekend by American vacationer Ryan Lutz using a bunch of keys to carve the words “Ivan and Hayley 23” into the brickwork.

In the video, Ryan can be heard saying, “Are you serious, man?” That sucks, man. Stupid asshole.’

When challenged, the man believed to be Ivan turns to Ryan and grins before turning his attention back to the wall.

MailOnline has discovered that Ivan is originally from Lovech, Bulgaria and also works as a delivery driver in the Bristol area.

His girlfriend Hayley Bracey, 33, is thought to run her own sports nutrition business and the two live together in Keynsham, near Bristol.

In a statement released this afternoon, a spokesman for the Carabinieri said: “Following investigations and following the complaint filed by the Parks Authority of the Colosseum, the Carabinieri of the Rome Piazza Venezia Command, coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, have established that … Traditional investigations.” and photographic comparisons show the person is seriously suspected of being responsible for the engraving of her own and her partner’s name in the Coliseum, filmed the scene and then posted it on social media.

“The Carabinieri have established that they are a couple, man and woman, living in England.”

“It should be noted that the case is at the preliminary investigation stage and the suspect must therefore presume his innocence pending a final verdict.”

Meanwhile, Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano said in a statement: “I am grateful to the Arma dei Carabinieri for promptly identifying the alleged perpetrator of the uncivilized and absurd act in the Colosseum.”

“An act that has offended all people around the world who appreciate the value of archaeology, monuments and history.”

“Now I hope that justice will take its course by applying the law rigorously.” If there is a trial, the Ministry of Education acts as a civil party.”

Ryan previously said, “I couldn’t believe it when I saw what that idiot was doing to the brickwork.”

“I’m fascinated by history and culture, and there was this fool who defaced it, which is a crime, and I wanted to do something about it.”

“So I took the video and showed it to the security officer at the scene and alerted him to the couple.”

“He said there was nothing he could do as he didn’t see them defacing the wall, but he said to speak to his boss.” I did and he informed me that the police had been called.

“That was the last thing I heard and then I left the Coliseum and got on with my day.” I posted the video in the hope that someone would recognize and identify them and then they would be punished.

“I think whoever they are are both idiots and I have this horrible gut feeling that these two idiots are Americans because that’s what we’re known for.”

“But I respect culture and history and am grateful to be a visitor to a place like Rome and to be hosted by such wonderful people and then two idiots do something like this.”

“They obviously have no shame and when he looked at me in that bizarre way and just smiled, you could tell what I thought of him.”

“I don’t understand what would make anyone do something like this and I really hope they get caught and punished.”

Builders working at the couple’s home said: “They left last week and won’t be back for a fortnight.” We are in the process of breaking the groundwork. They said they were touring Europe.’

Expressing shock, Hayley’s mother said, “No, that can’t be right.” She wouldn’t do such a thing. She is vacationing in Italy. Ivan is her partner and they are both gone.’

Hayley’s father declined to comment on the matter, saying, “I have nothing to say.”
